Melissa Bott

Talent Acquisition Consultant

Melissa started her career in Human Resources and quickly found herself gravitating towards the Talent Acquisition side of HR. She loves what she does because every single day is different and exciting, and because of the relationships she gets to build along the way. Melissa’s favorite thing about working at SHINE is “all of the positive energy that surrounds us here! The work is hard, but we make a point of celebrating all the little wins!”

When she isn’t busy being a kick-ass Talent Acquisition Consultant, Melissa enjoys spending time with her family either at family gatherings or events. When the weather cooperates, you can almost always find her outside walking her dogs or hiking in the beautiful PNW.

What is the most inspiring part of your job? One of the greatest parts of being a Talent Acquisition Consultant is that I get to constantly bring people together. My clients come to me in search of the perfect candidate, I call them, “Your Unicorn”; and my job is to find the perfect “unicorn” candidate that best matches the company’s opening and culture. What is also incredibly satisfying is being able to build and maintain strong relationships with both clients and candidates.

Cats or dog? I love animals; however, dogs are my favorite. I have two dogs, a pug named Charly and a Dachshund named Stella. Both are amazing dogs, and they love playing together. I enjoy taking them to the dog park and any outdoor activities with them.

Your top 3 favorite books? I love Jane Austen’s books and my top three would be Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and Emma. I enjoy her novels because she was ‘before her time’ and her writing stands out for its comedy, self-awareness and realistic portrayals of the characters and relationships.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given? “Your life is your responsibility.” Since I am the only person I can control, I am the only person who can take responsibility for my life. That includes my energy, my happiness, my fulfillment, career, choices and more. It’s powerful embodying this advice.

What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? I would be a photographer and travel around the world. I would love to travel the world and take amazing photos of where I’ve visited. Seeing different cultures and landscapes would be an amazing experience! If I had a superpower, it would be to Teleport! Then I could travel to different places anytime I wanted too!

What are the values that drive you? My 5 most important values that drive me are Family, Freedom, Adventure, Authenticity, and Wisdom.

Favorite quote: “Never give up on the things that make you smile.” “Nothing is Impossible; the word itself says “I’m Possible”!”- Audrey Hepburn.
